Beijing time, March 10th, Sam Simon, co-creator and screenwriter of the animated sitcom "The Simpsons", died at his home in Los Angeles after battling illness for more than a year. He was only 59 years old.
Simon co-created the long-running cartoon TV series The Simpsons with Matt Groening and James L. Brooks in 1989. Although he left The Simpsons team in 1993, he still retained his title of "executive producer" on the animation creation list. Simon, who has won nine Emmy Awards, was diagnosed with advanced colon cancer in 2012. Doctors told him he had only three months to live. Late last year, Simon announced he would donate $100 million of his fortune through The Sam Simon Foundation, which rescues stray dogs and trains them to help disabled people, and other charities. "The Simpsons" executive producer Al Jean and voice actor Hank Azaria shared the news of Simon's death on Twitter. Other celebrities also tweeted their condolences for Simon. |
