On March 12, the 8.7-meter-long relief mural created by the famous manga artist Katsuhiro Otomo for Sendai Airport was unveiled. The picture depicts a "child" riding a mechanical goldfish crossing the huge waves controlled by the wind god and the thunder god to attract auspicious clouds, implying that children muster up the courage to move forward in the face of difficulties. This ceramic relief is hung on the wall of the international arrival gate on the first floor of the central terminal of Sendai Airport. Recently, in order to commemorate the completion of the ceramic relief mural that was originally drawn and supervised by Japanese cartoonist Katsuhiro Otomo, a replica of the original ceramic relief will be sold for 129,600 yen. The replicas sold as souvenirs use a special printing technology to reproduce the original ceramic relief, and are signed by Katsuhiro Otomo. 250 copies of the replicas are available on the special website while supplies last, and part of the proceeds will be donated to the reconstruction of the earthquake-affected areas in Miyagi Prefecture at the request of Katsuhiro Otomo. Katsuhiro Otomo is a Japanese cartoonist and animation producer. His cartoons are well received in the industry for their exquisite pictures and clever plots. In 1983, his work "Child's Dream" won the 4th Japan SF Grand Prize, making him the first cartoonist to receive this honor. His major works include "Akira", "Steam Boy", "Mushishi" live-action version, and "Fire Town". |
