CATDOLL: The results of the 39th Kodansha Manga Awards were announced, "The Seven Deadly Sins" and "Yowamushi Pedal" won the awards

Yesterday (May 12), the results of the 39th Kodansha Manga Awards were finally announced! The winning work in the general category was "Knights of Sidonia" by manga artist Tsutomu Nihei, and the winning work in the girl category was "Escape is Shameful but Useful" by Umino Tsunami. There were two winning works in the boy category, one was "The Seven Deadly Sins" by Suzuki Hiroshi, and the other was "Yowamushi Pedal" by Watanabe Wataru.

"Knights of Sidonia" is a SF action manga about boys and girls manipulating giant humanoid weapons in outer space and engaging in fierce battles with mysterious life forms called Kijuko. It is currently being serialized in Kodansha's magazine "Monthly Afternoon", and 14 volumes of the single volume have been released so far. The first season of the TV animation adapted from the work was broadcast from April to June 2014, and the second season of the TV animation is still on the air. In addition, the theatrical version of this work was released in March this year.

"It's Not Easy to Run Away" is about work and marriage, which are unique to adults, and describes the story of a contract marriage between two people in an employment relationship, Mikuri Moriyama and Hiramitsu Tsuzaki. The work is serialized in Kodansha's manga magazine "Kiss", and five volumes of the single volume have been released so far.

"Seven Deadly Sins" mainly tells the story of the legendary traitors "Seven Deadly Sins" who once attempted to overthrow the kingdom. They are still being hunted as fugitives by the kingdom's core - the holy knights who are one-knife-to-a-thousand. However, when Elizabeth, the third princess of the Kingdom of Lyonness, who is eager to find the legendary knights "Seven Deadly Sins", appears, a thrilling adventure that will change the face of the world officially begins. The work is currently serialized in Kodansha's magazine "Weekly Shonen Magazine", and 14 volumes of the single volume have been released so far. The TV animation of the same name adapted from this work has been broadcast on all 28 MBS and TBS channels at 5 pm every Sunday from October 2014 to March 2015 (5 slots today, Japan time), with a total of 24 episodes.

Yowamushi Pedal is a shounen and sports manga based on bicycle racing, which mainly describes the continuous growth of the inconspicuous protagonist Onoda Sakamichi. The work is serialized in the magazine "Weekly Shonen Champion" under Akita Shoten, and 39 volumes of the single volume have been issued so far. The first season of the TV animation of this work was broadcast from October 2013 to June 2014, and Yowamushi Pedal Re:RIDE, which was edited from the first season with new scenes, began to be screened in theaters on September 19, 2014. In addition, before the first season of the TV animation was broadcast, the official also released an OAD bundled with the limited edition of the 29th volume of the manga. Currently, the second season of the TV animation "Yowwamushi Pedal GRANDE ROAD" is being broadcast with good reviews, and this summer will also release a completely new theatrical version with an original story written by the original author.

In addition to the above-mentioned award-winning works, there is also a special award in this section. The award-winning work is the long-lived work "Chef Papa" created by cartoonist Tochi Ueyama. This work is currently being published in the magazine "Morning" under Kodansha. It has been serialized for 30 years and has received continuous praise during this period. The selection committee this year includes 7 people: Antong Yuma, Kobayashi Miyuki, Fujisawa Toru, Fujishima Kosuke, Maekawa Tsuyoshi, Mita Norifusa, and Yamashita Kazumi. Each winner will receive a certificate, a bronze statue and a prize of 1 million yen. The award ceremony will be held at the Imperial Hotel at 18:00 (Japan time) on July 7.
