CATDOLL: 2015 China-Korea Film and Television Media Summit Forum kicks off

On September 15, the 2015 China-Korea Film and Television Media Summit Forum with the theme of "New Thinking and New Power for the Development of China-Korea Film and Television Media" was held in the International Conference Hall on the first floor of the Cultural and Art Center of Jilin Animation Academy. As one of the series of activities for the 15th anniversary of the founding of Jilin Animation Academy, the forum was hosted by the China Private Cultural Industry Chamber of Commerce, the Busan International Film and Television Program Exhibition Organizing Committee, and Jilin Animation Academy. It held extensive discussions on the current situation and future of China-Korea film and television media, film and television content marketing, and other topics, and discussed the new future of China-Korea film and television media cooperation and development.

Attending the forum were Jiang Ping, general manager of China Film Co., Ltd., Wang Danyan, deputy director and secretary-general of the China Television Art Committee of the State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television, Kim Se-hoon, chairman of the Korean Film Council, Zheng Liguo, chairman and president of Jilin Animation Academy and chairman and general manager of Jilin Jiyuan Space-Time Animation and Game Technology Co., Ltd., as well as more than 50 internationally renowned experts and scholars in the fields of film, television, animation and games from nearly 20 countries and regions including China, South Korea, the United States and Italy.

The forum was hosted by Yang Xin, a host of Jilin TV. She first felt very honored and delighted to host this forum. She said: "In recent years, the educational and cultural exchanges between China and South Korea have become increasingly close. This forum is mainly for exchanges and learning in the film and television media between China and South Korea, focusing on global vision, new concepts, gathering wisdom, integrating resources, deepening consensus, seeking common development, and creating a brilliant future for the cultural industry. Here, we have to mention our host, the organizer of this event, Jilin Animation Academy, this young and largest single animation academy in the world, whose far-sighted vision and mind contribute to the international cooperation of film and television media."

Mr. Jiang Ping, General Manager of China Film Co., Ltd., went on stage to congratulate Jilin Animation Academy on its 15th anniversary. "What surprised me when I walked into this campus was that it took only 15 years to build such an academy. In the long history of Chinese and world cinema, 15 years may seem short, but I remember when actress Li Bingbing won the Hundred Flowers Award one year, she said, 'It took me ten seconds to walk from the audience to the stage, but it took me ten years.' Today, perhaps it took President Zheng Liguo fifteen seconds to walk from the audience to the stage, but it took him fifteen years. It was not easy."

He then gave a speech on the current situation and future of Chinese films. He said: "In 2003, the comprehensive reform of Chinese films began, and Chinese films embarked on the road of industrialization. From the box office point of view, the box office of Chinese films in 2002 was less than 1 billion, and it increased several times to 29.6 billion last year. Just a few days ago this year, Chinese films easily passed the 30 billion mark, and it is estimated that it will exceed 40 billion by the end of this year. How difficult is it to develop more than 30 times. Some people say how all this came about. Of course, there is the rapid development of the national economy, the high level of care and support from the Party and the government for the film industry, and the increase in the enthusiasm of the people for watching movies. Among them, we must also mention the unremitting efforts of Chinese filmmakers. Animation and animated films have played a very important role in this. When it comes to animated films and animation academies, we have to talk about the importance of talent training. Fifteen years ago, many people questioned why we need to train so many students to study animation. From now on, it is not only necessary, but more necessary. Our China Film Academy alone needs a large number of animation talents every year, and we will train them into leading talents in the future. Therefore, our animation academy has become one of the cradles for cultivating such talents, and an important cradle."

Wang Danyan, deputy director and secretary general of the China Television Art Committee of the State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television, expressed her views on the current situation and future development of China's television industry. She said that with the rapid development of economic globalization and global high technology, and with my country's economic development entering a new normal,. With the rapid changes in social life, the integration and upgrading of media forms, the ups and downs of creative investment, and the diversified segmentation of audience needs, the development of my country's television industry is entering a new historical development period, and is showing many new characteristics that affect the future development prospects. These new characteristics are prominent in three aspects: integration is changing the ecological pattern of my country's television industry. Whether it can take a new path of deep integration and development in the normal competition has become the key to whether television can survive and develop in the future; upgrading is becoming the keyword for the reform and development of my country's television industry. It is crucial to enhance the sense of crisis, sense of worry, sense of responsibility and sense of urgency, and further accelerate the leapfrog development of the television industry. Whether the IP concept can be used well is related to the new pattern of development of China's film industry and even the entire cultural industry.

Kim Se-hoon, Chairman of the Korean Film Council, talked about the current situation of the Korean film industry and its supporting policies. He said that Hollywood films and Korean films now share the film market equally in Korea, there is a lack of art films and writer films, and the growth scale of the industry has also stagnated. The Korean Film Council, where he works, is responsible for the introduction of Korean policies, including government financial support, which can strengthen the growth momentum of Korean films, form a reverse effect, strengthen management responsibility and expand international support, and build a sustainable foundation.

He believes that China and South Korea should join hands to explore the Asian market and break into the Hollywood market. He hopes to cooperate in shooting some animated films that can move audiences around the world, and at the same time carry out more friendly cultural cooperation with China.

The holding of the China-Korea Film and Television Media Summit Forum will have far-reaching significance for deepening the open and internationalized educational characteristics of Jilin Animation Academy and expanding the domestic and international influence of Jilin Animation Academy.
