CATDOLL: Naruto and Hina have already decided on their love. Masashi Kishimoto's interview on the end of the manga "Naruto"

CATDOLL: Naruto and Hina have already decided on their love. Masashi Kishimoto's interview on the end of the manga "Naruto"

At the end of the Naruto manga, Entermix magazine did a special interview with the author Masashi Kishimoto and published it in the magazine. Let's take a look at what Kishimoto said.

The final battle between Sasuke and Naruto was decided at the beginning of the series.

Reporter: It's been 15 years of long-term serialization. Thank you for your hard work.

Kishimoto: Thank you. Actually, I just finished the last chapter 15 hours ago. After that, I took a nap and immediately accepted this interview. It was only then that I finally realized that the series had ended.

Reporter: As the saying goes, the excitement is still there. What has it been like for you as a teacher in these 15 years?

Kishimoto: I have always answered this question with "It seems long, but it is actually short". But this time, my truest feeling is "It is really long" (laughs). This feeling is probably because the serialization has ended. Before, every week seemed to be chased by the deadline, and the week passed in the blink of an eye. But now looking back on these fifteen years, it feels like it is really long.

Reporter: What was it like when you finished drawing the last chapter?

Kishimoto: When I had just finished the manuscript, the first editor came to see me with a bouquet of flowers. The moment I received the bouquet, I felt like I was looking at the scene of the rookie era. The two of them were planning the serial content and the hard work they had gone through so far. It was really hard to control myself at that moment. But I pretended to be strong and said "Nothing..." in front of my assistant (laughs). Because crying would be too embarrassing, I forced myself to hold back my tears.

Reporter: The final battle between Sasuke and Naruto was a wonderful battle that matched the achievements of the past 15 years. When was this ending determined?

Kishimoto: The decision to end with the battle between Naruto and Sasuke was actually made when I discussed it with the first editor when the series was first published. When I changed editors, I was warned that "the ending cannot be changed in any way", and at the same time, "it's your work, so you are free to change it in any way." In the end, I didn't want to change the ending or not (laughs). But I didn't intend to change the ending in my heart. As for the result, I really wanted to stick to this ending without hesitation. But I had no idea how everyone would face the final battle, and it was not until three years ago that the current storyline was finally determined.

What I insisted on in the final battle was not that Naruto and Sasuke were enemies, but that they both realized that the other was their best friend. Although that is what I said, in fact, in the end, this is the only way to save Sasuke. Sasuke is a very stubborn and troublesome guy in many ways. Even when I was drawing him, I was worried about him (laughs). And only people with a big heart like Naruto can accept Sasuke like that and stop him. Even Sakura, who likes Sasuke so much, wanted to give up in an instant when she wanted to stab Sasuke. But Naruto refused to give up at all. It is really too sad to end it like this because of losing a best friend. I also gambled on Naruto like that, and wanted him to help Sasuke no matter what. (Personal complaint, what Kishimoto said at the end here is not like a drawing. What I want to gamble on Naruto is also drunk. It really corresponds to the previous sentence that the character is acting out the story later)

Kinniku Drivar's Brotherly Love

Reporter: The theme of "friendship" that Mr. Kishimoto wanted to portray was truly portrayed to the end.

Kishimoto: I am really satisfied here. Friendship is the theme of many works, and for me, friendship is the same as brotherhood and family. Losing it means losing yourself. And for teenagers, this is even more terrifying. And I have described that situation many times in my works. This time, it is the culmination of all these and marked it in the final battle.

Reporter: From the beginning to the end, Naruto and Sasuke's relationship was like that of twin brothers.

Kishimoto: Actually, I am a twin. When I was a kid, I grew up with the same feeling as Naruto. Although this dark history is a bit damaging to my image, I don't want to talk about it too much, it happened when I was in elementary school. My brother and I are both smaller, and during breaks, my brother was often subjected to this move from Kinnikuman. It wasn't that he was bullied, but it was just that he was more vulnerable to this move because he was smaller. Seeing my brother like that, it was as painful as if I was being attacked. In fact, there were times when I was attacked next to my brother. (Laughs) But the strange thing is that every time at this time, I would strongly feel "We are brothers after all." That might be the moment I realized that my brother and I were connected. And after that, when my friends around me broke up or had something bad happen, I would feel the same feeling I felt when I was in elementary school with my brother. Every time at this time, I would realize again that "I really have a good relationship with this guy after all." So for me, friends are equal to brothers. In this sense, I think it's great to be born as twins. So the prototypes of Naruto and Sasuke are simply me and my brother.

Reporter: Chapter 699 depicts Sasuke leaving the village and going on a journey. What was the intention of drawing this way?

Kishimoto: After doing so many excessive things, it is really difficult to return to the village to live a normal life. So it is a journey of atonement. And further, there is an inner setting in my heart, this is a journey to solve the mysteries left in this world. Who is the final BOSS Kaguya who appeared in the original work and where did she come from? If these are not solved, the world will be involved in a catastrophe again, and it is also a journey to prevent this. However, if these are described in detail, they will be considered "Hey!? Do you want to continue!?", so I just passed it over. Because there is no plan to draw there yet.

Reporter: Although both the last episode and the one between Naruto and Hinata were instigated, when was the ending of Naruto and Hinata getting married decided?

Kishimoto: I decided that a long time ago. I was confused about the ending with Sakura, but now that I have come to this point, if Sakura changes her mind about Naruto again, then she would be a woman who is too extreme (laughs). And, in fact, I think Sakura is loyal to Sasuke no matter what.

I will be drawing Naruto until next summer.

Reporter: Compared with the original work which has the theme of "friendship", the theatrical version released in December has changed to a story with the theme of "love".

Kishimoto: The idea of using "love" as the theme was proposed by the animation production team. Personally, I thought "if there is no good idea, it is better not to make a movie", but the moment I heard this proposal, I thought it was a "good idea". In the manga, there are only descriptions of battles and basically no descriptions of love, which also contains such a supplementary meaning. I also want to portray Naruto's growth in love in the movie, and this idea suddenly expanded.

Reporter: As for Mr. Kishimoto, what role did you play in the production of the movie?

Kishimoto: When they first talked to me, the first draft of the script had already been completed. I just asked them to make some changes to it to make it more perfect. But because I felt the enthusiasm of the entire theater production staff, led by the scriptwriter, for describing Naruto's love, I couldn't help but be infected by this enthusiasm, and unconsciously asked them to make countless changes, not even letting go of the smallest details.

Reporter: Because there is basically no description of true love in the original work, it is really difficult to imagine Naruto's love.

Kishimoto: I personally feel very embarrassed when writing about love, so I tried my best to avoid describing love in the original work. The final chapter was also planned to end N years later like Dragon Ball. And I think only animation can truly express love, and as a result, it is a good story to be serialized together with the ending of the manga.

Reporter: In the end, what I am most concerned about is Mr. Kishimoto's future plans.

Kishimoto: There will be a short-term concentrated serialization of the new chapter of Naruto in the spring of next year. Besides that, I will basically be working on Naruto until the summer. So if I really want to draw a new manga, it will probably be after that. In fact, I have already written a lot of ideas, and I won't let you down. But because I am already 40 years old, it is really hard to serialize weekly. Although I am often told that you have to learn from Mr. Akimoto Osamu, it turns out that Mr. Akimoto Osamu is really amazing. If possible, please let me go with the new serialization or weekly. First of all, it's about time to calm down and prepare for the honeymoon trip and squeeze out time to play with the children. Although I have been married for ten years, thanks to the Hokage, I have no time to rest. It's about time I cherish my family like Naruto and the others. (laughs)
