Recently, the award ceremony of the "Silent Manga Audition" International Comic Competition held by Japan's COAMIX Co., Ltd. was held in Tokyo. Winners from many countries attended the ceremony. Among the winners this time was a Chinese, Wang Xiaodong from Shijiazhuang, whose comic work "The Nightmare Before Christmas" won the second place in the competition. Famous Japanese cartoonists Hojo Tsukasa, Hara Tetsuo and other judges of the competition issued certificates to the winners.

After the award ceremony, Wang Xiaodong and other award-winning contestants attended a comic class taught by comic master Hojo Tsukasa. “Hojo Tsukasa has created many excellent comic works, especially City Hunter, which is popular among readers from all over the world. It has also been adapted into animation and movies (starring Jackie Chan). It’s a great honor to listen to a class taught by a master!” Wang Xiaodong said that he never thought that he would be able to see his childhood idol in person and chat with him face to face. “Although I have dreamed of becoming a cartoonist since I was a child, I have never had enough confidence. The efforts of these years have not been in vain. Now, I have done it!”

Wang Xiaodong said that he particularly liked to read comic books when he was a child and dreamed of becoming an excellent cartoonist when he grew up. When he was seven or eight years old, he began to doodle. During the school period, his parents and Wang Xiaodong reached an agreement: to exchange grades for comic books. When Wang Xiaodong got good grades, his parents would buy him a comic book as a reward. In order to get comic books, Wang Xiaodong never dared to neglect his studies.

Wang Xiaodong said: "I never dared to think that there would be a day when the masters in the comics world would comment on my work. In terms of comics, I still have a lot of shortcomings. I will continue to work hard and strive to create more excellent works!" Wang Xiaodong also said that he will continue to work hard to create more outstanding comic works to bring glory to the country!
