CATDOLL: Why are anime girls wearing glasses cuter? Contrast is king

"Girls with glasses" is a common setting in Japanese comics. Many girls look very cute after wearing glasses. Recently, a Japanese comic artist even further subdivided the definition of "Girls with glasses". Which type of girls with glasses attracts you more?

In real life, people usually wear glasses to correct myopia, but in the anime world, glasses are simply "restrictions" or "cute elements" that can change one's personality. Having said that, cartoonist "Ando Masaki" believes that the "contrasting cuteness" of girls wearing glasses and girls without glasses can actually be further divided into three major factions... Will this trigger a civil war among "glasses lovers"?

Glasses in the anime world often function as "restraints". Some people change their personalities after taking off their glasses, while some may even release hundreds of times more combat power. Take Koizumi Hanayo in the anime "Love Live!" as an example.

Wearing glasses makes you look introverted and weak

One of the main reasons why glasses have become a cute element is this "contrast cuteness", that is, people who usually wear or don't wear glasses suddenly put on or take off glasses, which gives people a very fresh feeling. For this reason, cartoonist Ando Masaki divides this contrast cuteness into three categories.

1. Only go out with glasses on dates

This kind of contrast cuteness is more common in introverted girls who usually wear glasses, but suddenly decide to put on contact lenses during a date. Because of their nervousness, they appear very shy and want to show another side of themselves to the other person.

In order to cover people with more personalities, Ando Masaki also drew the different reactions of introverted girls and extroverted girls. The introverted girl said, "I want to try contact lenses... will it be weird?", revealing her timidity in her words; the extroverted girl said, "Glasses? It won't be a problem if I wear them, just stop staring at me," showing her tsundere vibe.

2. Wear glasses only at home

Although this shy behavior may touch some people's hearts, Mr. Masaki Ando does not like this old-fashioned plot of an introverted girl. Instead, he prefers the second kind of contrast with a slightly tsundere atmosphere, that is, an extroverted girl who usually does not wear glasses will secretly wear glasses at home.

Here he also used the examples of the two types of girls, the introvert and the extrovert. The introvert girl thought, "Glasses are more suitable for me? I-Is that so...", and she was still very shy; the extrovert girl was still as arrogant as ever - "Are you afraid that I can't see clearly? You asked me not to wear them, idiot."

3. Glasses styles vary greatly

In addition, there is a third faction with many supporters - the difference in glasses styles is huge. This is obviously not a question of wearing glasses or not wearing glasses, but the contrast created by wearing two or more types of glasses alternately. For example, some girls will wear fashionable and fancy glasses when they go out, but wear more comfortable but very rustic glasses when they go home.

Ando Masaki's Internet Research

After publishing his own understanding of glasses girls, Mr. Ando also surveyed the opinions of 1,910 netizens, and the results were very surprising - it turns out that so many people like the contrast of "people who don't usually wear glasses suddenly wearing glasses"...
