CATDOLL: "Immaculate Maria" takes you to experience medieval Europe, Part 4

The plot enters the fourth episode. Maria, who has a bully loli around her, still helps people to quell the war. What will happen to the love between Maria and Joseph? The plot is about to enter a small climax. I don't know why, but the official website of this issue of medieval European keywords only released two. Is it because there is nothing to say in the fourth episode, or because no one reads the knowledge popularization column? Well, no matter what, our trip to Europe has to continue.

1. The Black Death and the Evil Water

The Black Death is an infectious disease caused by the prevalence of Yersinia pestis. The disease was spread by fleas that sucked the blood of rats carrying the disease, and had a very high mortality rate at the time. As the disease progressed, gangrene would turn the skin black, hence the name "Black Death". There have been several major outbreaks of the Black Death in history. The plague bacteria that were introduced from Central Asia to Italy in the 14th century are said to have caused the death of 30% to 60% of the population in Europe at the time. After that, there were several more outbreaks of the Black Death in Europe, which had a great impact on social life in medieval Europe. However, at that time, medical technology was backward and there was no concept of pathogens. Many people believed that the disease was spread because of the stench in the water, and rumors were spread, causing many people to be afraid to take a bath and develop a fear of "evil water".

2. “Dance of Death” drawing

The Black Death in the 14th century had a great impact on the society and culture of medieval Europe. The biggest impact on people's spiritual level was that it made people start to think that "regardless of status or wealth, death will come to everyone equally." This kind of painting that uses skulls to represent dancing people is the "Dance of Death" painting. In the early 15th century, many people in Paris lost their loved ones. The Paris Church at that time preached "MEMENTO MORI" to people, which roughly means "don't forget death" and taught people that life in the world is illusory. People at that time may have felt that the madness exuded by this painting was around them.
