CATDOLL: The "Dragon Ball" animation celebrates its 30th anniversary. Do you still remember the feeling you had?

On February 26, 1986, Fuji TV began broadcasting the Dragon Ball animation every Wednesday. The classic officially landed on the screen and became a childhood memory. Yesterday (February 26, 2016), the Dragon Ball animation ushered in the 30th anniversary. Looking back on this 30-year journey, can you still remember the feeling you had at the beginning?

Dragon Ball Generation 1: Goku searches for the wishing ball and makes new allies at the martial arts tournament

The opening credits of Fuji TV's "Dragon Ball" 30 years ago, do you remember the smiling dragon?

This simple and quaint picture was used by Fuji TV to promote the newly launched Dragon Ball animation 30 years ago. No one would have thought that this seemingly ordinary work would become the representative work of Toei Animation in the 1980s and 1990s, and triggered the "Dragon Ball trend" around the world. Since then, Akira Toriyama has become a household name as a cartoonist. If we include the animation Arale broadcast at the same time, Akira Toriyama actually "dominated" Fuji TV for a full 18 years!

Fuji TV's Dragon Ball trailer

Do you remember the innocent little Goku at the beginning of the animation? His encounter with Bulma started his extraordinary life.

The encounter with Bulma changed Goku's life

The initial adventure was to find the Dragon Ball that could fulfill wishes. During this period, Goku met various friends and fought many enemies. After the adult Goku fought with Piccolo II, the "Dragon Ball Arc" came to an end, and Goku and Chi-Chi formed a happy family.

Dragon Ball Z: All the heroes gather together, Old Fusaru and Buu

Next comes the bloody battle of Dragon Ball Z, during which four big bosses - Vegeta, Frieza, Cell and Buu appear one after another. In order to save the earth, Goku and his friends fight one magnificent battle after another. As Vegeta turns over a new leaf, the story develops in a new direction, and the heroine Bulma also finds her home and forms a sweet family with Vegeta.

Dragon Ball Z is the longest-running part of the Dragon Ball series, with nearly 300 episodes. It is worth noting that in the Z chapter, the wishing ball Dragon Ball is no longer the focus of the story. The passionate fighting occupies the mainstream, which also makes Akira Toriyama the peak of his career. New characters such as Gohan, Trunks, and Mr. Satan appear one after another, and the story setting gradually becomes fuller.

Toei Dragon Ball TV Animation Part 2: Dragon Ball Z

In "Dragon Ball Z", even the bosses have their own characteristics: Frieza, the emperor of the universe, is cruel but loves talents, and can be described as a hero; Cell is cold-blooded but too arrogant, and the "Cell Game" laid the foundation for his disastrous defeat; Buu has different forms, and thanks to him, the strongest warrior in the "Z" arc, Vegetto, was born... The greatness of Akira Toriyama lies in the fact that he not only created many righteous warriors, but also that even the villain characters can bring thrills and fear to readers.

Dragon Ball GT: Rejuvenation was not the original intention, and the setting of Super Saiyan 4 is disappointing

After the Z arc was finished, Toei continued to launch Dragon Ball GT in order to retain its huge fan base. Although it was under the banner of Dragon Ball, the GT arc was not originally created by Akira Toriyama, but was only authorized, so it can also be regarded as a fan animation. The setting of the GT arc is more complicated, with the addition of the Black Star Dragon Ball, the Seven Star Dragon, and Goku also broke through the Super Saiyan 4 form in the GT arc.

Toei Dragon Ball TV animation third part: Dragon Ball GT

Many viewers dislike the "GT" chapter. Firstly, it forcibly changed the original setting of Akira Toriyama, which seemed unnatural. Secondly, the ending of the "GT" chapter was abrupt, which forced many old Dragon Ball fans to take drugs and shattered their dreams that had lasted for decades.

After that, Toei continued to launch "Dragon Ball: Kai", but since the plot remade the content of the "Z" chapter, it will not be discussed here.

"Dragon Ball Super": Golden Frieza returns, who is the winner of the cosmic melee?

Then came Dragon Ball Super, which has been airing since July 2015. The Super episode introduced some of the content from the theatrical version, such as the God of Destruction, Golden Frieza, etc. Although the story is more interesting, Toei's poor animation and slow plot also made the Super episode criticized. Fortunately, the recent Dragon Ball Super has begun to enter the Universe Martial Arts Tournament, and this dangerous plot has once again whetted the appetite of Dragon Ball fans...
