CATDOLL: 2015 Tokyo International Anime Fair Grand Prix Nominations Released

The Tokyo International Anime Fair, which will be held on March 19, announced today the nominees for the 2015 Tokyo Anime Awards. A total of eight works have been shortlisted for the final nominations, and they will compete for the TV and film departments' annual best animation awards. Seven of the eight works are produced in Japan, and one foreign work has been nominated.

Among the four nominated works in the film category, "Frozen" is the only non-Japanese animated theatrical version. It is also the only non-Japanese animated film among the eight nominated works. "Frozen" was quite a sensation after it was released in Japan in 2014, topping both the box office and BD sales charts, and can be said to be the work with the highest voice to win the championship. The other three nominated works in the film category are "The Tale of Princess Kaguya", "UC Unicorn episode 7", and "Doraemon Always Be with Me"

The TV category is naturally dominated by Japan. The four nominated works are LoveLive!, Knights of Sidonia, Yo-kai Watch, and Ping Pong. From the perspective of popularity alone, Yo-kai Watch and LoveLive! are the most popular works. Both works have become social phenomena in Japan. In the end, it depends on who is stronger, the fighting power of LL Dafa followers or the fighting power of Japanese children. The nomination of Ping Pong may be a bit surprising to everyone. The main reason why Ping Pong was nominated is the exciting youth-oriented plot of the animation itself and the unique production method, which makes this animation full of experimentalism and artistry (right).
