CATDOLL: Japanese animators' living conditions are worrying as they work 11 hours a day and earn low income

We have previously reported that Japanese animators do not earn much and can hardly make a living (click here for details). Now more and more media in Japan are beginning to pay attention to this. Recently, NHK TV broadcast a survey result of the Japanese Agency for Cultural Affairs on the working conditions of Japanese animators.

The program said: Although there are many excellent Japanese animation works, which are highly praised in Japan and abroad, the work intensity of Japanese animation producers is very high. According to the survey, the average working time of a producer is up to 11 hours a day. Moreover, the salary of young newcomers is pitifully low. Generally, the average annual income of young animation producers in their twenties is only 1.1 million yen, which is significantly lower than that of other industries. The TV program also analyzed: This phenomenon is mainly caused by the fierce competition of cheap labor in other countries, and most of them are outsourced at a price of several hundred yen per piece.

After this video was released, relevant Japanese authorities said they would begin research on the animation production industry in order to improve the current working environment for young animators.
