CATDOLL: Statistics on the consumption power of Japanese otakus are released. Writing "dead otaku" is read as "tycoon".

As the number of otakus gradually increases, many manufacturers have targeted this group and developed various tempting peripherals. Judging from the recently released spending power list, these otakus have a lot of money and are simply rich people.

It can be said that many new technologies are now serving the otaku community. In addition to animation, idol peripherals, comics, novels and games, the latest VR technology is also connected to the otaku market, launching many experiences that make otakus and otakus feel extra comfortable. At the same time, in order to alleviate the embarrassing situation of otakus who cannot find a partner, alternative technologies such as "virtual boyfriends/girlfriends" have also emerged, madly squeezing the wallets of otakus who are thirsty for love.

Yano Research Institute's survey on the classification of "otaku" groups

So how much money do otakus invest in these fields every year? Recently, the Yano Research Institute of Japan conducted a survey of more than 9,000 people aged 15 to 69. Among them, 19.1% of people considered themselves otakus (or had been called otakus), while 80.9% of people did not think they belonged to the otaku field.

The growth rate of idol otaku and fujoshi otaku has attracted some attention

Among the 19.1%, there are about 1,800 people who consider themselves otaku. Based on the different types of preferences of each person, the survey agency also conducted more investigations in different categories. As the data was finally released, the two branches of "idol otaku" and "rotten girl otaku" received more attention than other projects.

Among the many otakus, the idol otaku group (a total of 255 people) ranked first with an average annual consumption of 79,783 yen (about 4,860 yuan). In Japan, idol groups have always been a long-lasting money-making artifact. Both virtual idols and real idols have a very large fan base. In order to make the idols shine the most dazzling light, these fans spare no effort to use money to build momentum and pave the way, and there are many cases of spending a lot of money.

Considering the difference in spending power, this table only lists the spending of general idol fans. In fact, many crazy idol fans spend more to achieve their goals - just buying hundreds or thousands of CDs to buy tickets, or paying a lot of money to buy handshake event tickets is already a huge expense, not to mention the purchase of other peripherals in daily life.

"Seven incredible phenomena of idol chefs" posted by netizens

It is no wonder that some netizens have posted a joke on Twitter about the "Seven Mysteries of Idol Fans", among which the "mysterious source of money" has become a mystery that has attracted much attention. After all, with such a large amount of spending every year, a stable source of income is essential. So is this money earned from part-time jobs, or from parents' wages, or is it some unknown hidden income?

It is also worth noting that the consumption in the BL market increased by 3.8% compared to last year, with 85 respondents and an average annual consumption of 13,153 yen (about 800 yuan). With the emergence of popular works and the increasing number of live-action film adaptations of BL works, the market for rotten girls has also shown signs of expansion.

According to the current market, the price of a BL comic is about 700 yen, so the fujoshi included in the table will buy about 19 BL comics a year. Although the number is a bit small, many talented fujoshi will be "self-sufficient" and satisfy their fantasies through hand-made creations, so overall they are more economical than other groups who spend money like water.
