The animation produced by Toei Animation is based on the manga of the same name written by Shimabukuro Mitsunori. Although it was not officially broadcast on television until April 3, 2011, a full-episode mini-theater version of One Piece was actually broadcast in five major cities in Japan in November 2009.

The story is set in the era of gourmet food, where gourmet food is popular all over the world and unknown ingredients are worth thousands of dollars. In such an era, there is a group of adventurers who accept commissions from gourmets to explore those mysterious ingredients that have never been seen. They are gourmet hunters. One day, gourmet hunter Arrok was entrusted by IGO (International Gourmet Organization) to find the legendary ingredient "Kaira Crocodile".
