The theatrical version of "In This Corner of the World" is scheduled to be released in the fall of 2016. The director is Sunao Katabuchi, who directed "Kusou Shinko and the Thousand Years of Magic", and the animation production is handled by MPPA. Previously, the film collected support from 3,374 users through the crowdfunding website "Makuake", and received a total of 36,224,000 yen in funds before deciding to officially produce it.

"In This Corner of the World" is set in Kure City, Hiroshima Prefecture during the Pacific War. It tells the story of Sisi, the eldest daughter of a laver shop who married into the Hojo family, and vividly depicts the lives of people in that era. In 2009, it won the Excellence Award in the Manga Department of the "Cultural Affairs Agency and Art Agency Media Arts Festival". In 2011, a SP live-action Japanese drama version was launched to commemorate the end of the war.
