CATDOLL: Cartoonist sued in court over copyright dispute over Kung Fu Panda

Recently, a cartoonist was sued by DreamWorks Animation on four counts of fraud and three counts of forgery over the copyright issue of "Kung Fu Panda"; and if the prosecution is successful, the cartoonist will face up to 25 years in prison and a fine of $500,000.

It turns out that Gordon, a cartoonist from Massachusetts, USA, sued DreamWorks Animation in 2011 for stealing his copyright to produce the 2008 hit movie "Kung Fu Panda". In the 1990s, he created the work "Panda Power" featuring two pandas, and registered copyrights for his works in 1999 and 2000. After the 2008 DreamWorks Animation's "Kung Fu Panda" became a big hit, Gordon modified his work into the prototype in the movie and added the word "Kung Fu" to the original copyright registration name. He then tried to sue DreamWorks for copyright theft and demanded millions in compensation. Lawyer Gordon once proposed a settlement of $12 million and 50% of the copyright conditions to DreamWorks, but DreamWorks flatly rejected it. DreamWorks was furious and also presented evidence to accuse Gordon of fraud and forgery.
