CATDOLL: Micro comics for love "Go Away Tumor" with a smile horizontal

Recently, a comic book published in 2012 has suddenly become popular after three years. Movies, stage plays, music, games, TV series, variety shows and other derivative forms related to this comic book have sprung up like mushrooms after rain, and it has the potential to become a new benchmark for Chinese comics. This comic book is "Go Away! Tumor King", produced by Weimanhua, which tells the real experience of cartoonist Xiong Dun in fighting cancer.

The comic book "Go Away! Tumor" tells the life story of Xiong Dun, a cartoonist born in the 1980s who suffers from non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, after the tumor was diagnosed. From the perspective of comics, the style of "Go Away! Tumor" is really ordinary and has no competitiveness. From the perspective of commercial operation, the author of "Go Away! Tumor" has passed away, and it is not suitable for large-scale commercial operation. So in this case, for the owner and operator of the comic book "Go Away! Tumor" - Weimanhua, why has it continued to invest in it for three years regardless of cost?

Some stories are worth remembering

Cancer is a disease that is difficult to overcome at the current level of medicine. After a patient gets cancer, it is like being sentenced to death and completely losing hope of life. However, cartoonist Xiong Dun is so different. Even though her body is defeated by the disease, she is still happy. Faced with the erosion of the disease, painful treatment, and unbearable sequelae, she uses humorous words and interesting comics to present the life of a cancer patient in a positive way. In Xiong Dun's eyes, the disease is not so terrible. What she presents to us more is the confidence in life, the support of friends, and the company of family. It is such an optimistic spirit to face the disease, the pain, and the death that inspires each of us. This positive and ever-joyful spirit coincides with micro comics, so micro comics have never given up in the past three years and have been actively promoting the operation of the comic IP "Go Away! Tumor King", hoping to pass on this optimistic spirit.

Micro comics for love

Xiong Dun was a contracted cartoonist of Weimanhua before his death, so Weimanhua has been paying close attention to Xiong Dun's situation. In 2012, Weimanhua and Xiong Dun jointly planned and published the comic book "Go Away! Tumor King", which received widespread attention from all walks of life. Well-known artists such as Yao Chen, Chen Kun, and Faye Wong also expressed their support on Weibo. Since then, this comic book has become a synonym for encouraging countless cancer patients and conveying optimistic energy. Although Xiong Dun unfortunately left us in the same year, Weimanhua still continued to fulfill Xiong Dun's wish to make the comic book into a movie before his death, and pass on this strong love. Three years of hard work finally paid off. With the help of Wanda Pictures and Fruit Films, the film project of "Go Away! Tumor King" was realized. At the same time, when the movie is about to be released, Weimanhua also launched a new "Go Away! Tumor King" movie commemorative collector's edition book set, donated all the proceeds of its comic book, and together with part of the proceeds from the movie and stage play, established a public welfare support fund with Weigongyi to help cancer patients recover and support Chinese original cartoonists.

The first stop of love stage play was successfully performed

As the first stop of the "Go Away, Tumor King" comic IP operation, the "Go Away, Tumor King" stage play produced by Beijing Century Huapeng Cultural Media Co., Ltd. landed in Beijing last Friday and presented a high-quality stage play to everyone at the Century Theater. Actors Jiang Xiaohan, Guo Jiaming, Qu Shuangshuang and others brought everyone very wonderful performances.

In the stage play, Jiang Xiaohan plays Xiong Dun, and her most common expression is laughter. Even after knowing her illness, she is still extremely optimistic and infects people around her with her smile. Jiang Xiaohan's superb acting skills make Xiong Dun's image more substantial, and her performance is very layered. It is worth mentioning that the "Tumor King" is personified in the stage play, and with dark lights and frightening music, the audience can feel the horror of tumors more intuitively. The audience responded enthusiastically to the stage play, and the warm applause during the performance lasted for a long time.

The development of Chinese comics requires unity

"Go Away, Tumor King" took three years to develop. Its successful operation is not the result of the efforts of Weimanhua alone, but the result of the joint efforts of all parties. As Weimanhua CEO Mr. Sun Yuqian said: "The operation of "Go Away, Tumor King" abandoned the original high-priced IP licensing fee sales method used in the industry, and adopted a cooperative method of sharing benefits and risks. It fully believed in and utilized the professional strength of all parties in various industries, and developed through a new business model with each party performing its own duties and dedicated people. Finally, through the overall improvement of the main line of the "Go Away, Tumor King" IP, all parties can achieve profitability in various fields. This greatly reduces the capital and operating risks of the takeover party, and there is no need to pay huge licensing fees in advance. For downstream companies such as film and television companies and game companies, they have IP works with a fan base, and do not have to bear the operating risks alone."

"Go Away Tumor" is the first practice of the concept of animation IP alliance. Let us wait and see whether it can create the second miracle of Chinese animation after "The Return of the Great Sage".
