CATDOLL: Japanese TV shows report that current otakus say they are not worthy of being otakus

The popular morning information program "ZIP!" on Nippon Television recently aired an episode called "Genuine Otaku Special." According to a survey, the average annual consumption of otaku in 2004 was about 100,000 yen (about 5,290 yuan), but in 2013, the average annual consumption of otaku in the animation field fell to 25,000 yen (about 1,322.5 yuan), only a quarter of that ten years ago.

The number of traditional otakus has decreased, while the number of fashionable otakus has increased.
