CATDOLL: The Hollywood live-action version of "Ghost in the Shell" will start filming next year

According to foreign media reports, Jonathan Herman, the screenwriter of this year's hit film "Straight Outta Compton", will join the movie "Ghost in the Shell Live-Action" starring Scarlett Johansson to make the final rewrite of the script already completed by William Wheeler and Jamie Moss.

The Japanese manga series "Ghost in the Shell" created by Masamune Shirow has been adapted into anime many times before. The first animated film was directed by Mamoru Oshii in 1995. Scarlett Johansson will star in the live-action adaptation. Interestingly, many fans of the original work expressed dissatisfaction with the casting of a white man as an Asian character and launched a petition to change the role.

Ghost in the Shell tells the story of a technologically advanced Japan after World War IV. With the rapid development of communication network technology and human electronic mechanization technology, computer crimes are becoming more rampant and complex. In response to this situation, the government has established a special force, Public Security Section 9, led by Major Motoko Kusanagi, a cyborg, to combat criminal activities. Scarlett Johansson will play the role of female police officer Motoko Kusanagi in the film.

The film will be directed by Rupert Sanders, the director of Snow White and the Huntsman, and will start shooting in New Zealand early next year. It is currently scheduled to be released on March 31, 2017.
