CATDOLL: Oda talks about why he wants to supervise the One Piece movie to live up to the fans

As the original author of One Piece, Eiichiro Oda's influence in the industry is self-evident. He has also been responsible for the supervision of the theatrical version many times. So why is he so devoted to the theatrical version? In a recent interview, Oda gave an answer.

A: This foreshadows the beginning of terrible things (laughs).

Q: Is there any opportunity that makes you feel the need to have sufficient authority?

A: I always say that I hate theatrical versions. I've been working hard just to serialize them, and that hasn't changed. However, considering the special craze that the previous theatrical version has caused, I have a fear that the theatrical version must "make it popular". This is mainly because Fuji TV is also involved in the production of the theatrical version. And they have invested a lot of effort in promoting it, which I found scary when I knew about it (laughs). I have already judged that no matter what kind of theatrical version is produced, there will definitely be a large number of customers going to the cinema to watch it. However, if the theatrical version produced fails to live up to the expectations of the fans, it will also have a major impact on the work of "One Piece" itself. So I think that even if I have to spend time to get involved, I have to make the theatrical version great.
