CATDOLL: The first "Chinese Superman" in the history of DC Superman comics: Kong Kenan

DC Comics is an American comic giant that is as famous as Marvel Comics. It was founded in 1934. In June 1938, the company created the world's first superhero, Superman, in the inaugural issue of Action Comics, which rewrote the history of American comics.

Among them, the "superman characters" familiar to us from various regions have formed the current DC Heroes group. Recently, they announced that they will launch a new series of Superman comics, and the new Superman in it is the first "Chinese Superman" in the history of Superman comics. A teenager named Kenji Kong from Shanghai inherited the superman power.

Originally, the character was named Kenji Kong, but Gene Luen Yang, the Chinese-American writer who wrote the story for New Super-Man, received some feedback from readers that the name was confused with the more common Japanese name Kenji, so it was changed to Kenan.

The author also said: "I only thought about how to make this character and its name active in writing the story in this unique story, and thus overlooked some things." Therefore, after discussing with the editor, related creators in China, and his parents, he decided to change the name to Kong Kenan.

As for the origin of the name Kong Kenan, "Ke" means to overcome and "Nan" means the south. People in Beijing usually call people from Shanghai southerners, which is also the origin of the name of this new superhero.
