CATDOLL: A list of short-lived comics from Shonen Jump: It's a miracle that they can survive for two months

Although Shonen Jump has published many popular comics for more than ten years, there are also some short-lived comics that were tragically cancelled or disappeared. For these comics, it is a miracle to last for two months.

Many "short-lived" comics were heavily promoted and highly anticipated by publishers when they were first serialized, but in the end, due to various reasons, they could not avoid the fate of being cut short or missing, just like a meteor that was fleeting. Although Shonen Jump had various reasons to stop publishing these eliminated works, many of the comics' settings and worldviews were very novel and interesting, which made readers who liked them feel sorry. If given more time and opportunities, they might stand out and trigger heated discussions now.

1. "Double Artists" (three volumes), by Naoshi Komi

Cover of all three volumes of "Double Artists"

"Double Artisans" is a work by the author of Nisekoi Naoshi Komi that has been serialized since 2008. It is also his debut work. The story tells that a strange disease called "Troy" is spreading all over the world. The protagonist Kiri has a special physique since he was a child. Not only can he not be infected with Troy, but he can even prevent the disease by just touching the other party. Because of this, Kiri must always hold the hand of the heroine Ellian. As a "roving monk", Ellian herself has the characteristics of being resistant to Troy disease. Originally, she would not get sick, but as she continued to absorb Troy disease from others, she began to show symptoms.

After three volumes were published, the work was discontinued, and Mr. Gu Wei’s greatest wish at the beginning of the serialization, “I hope readers can be inspired with the courage to come out,” was shattered; in 2011, Mr. Gu Wei made a comeback with “Nisekoi” and successfully surpassed “Strawberry 100%” to become the longest-running love-themed manga in the history of “JUMP”.

2. "The Zoo at the Hour of Demons" (5 volumes), author: Kohei Horikoshi

Cover of the book "Zoo at the Moment of Devil"

Like Naoshi Komi, this work is the first serialized work by Kohei Horikoshi, the author of My Hero Academia. The story is about a strange zoo. At 4:44 pm, when the zoo closes, the animals in the zoo will turn into humans. When high school girl Hana Aoi comes to apply for a keeper, she is shocked to find that the zoo director is actually a cursed human with a rabbit head. However, in order to lift the curse, Hana Aoi decides to contribute her own efforts to make this zoo the best zoo in the world.

Characters from Zoo appear in the third episode of My Hero Academia

I don't know whether it was to pay tribute to Horikoshi Kohei by the animation production team or Horikoshi's instruction, but in the third episode of the recently aired "My Hero Academia" animation, the heroines of "Oma Hour Zoo" Hana Aoi and Yuu Kikuchi also appeared in a special friendly guest appearance. However, many viewers may not understand the meaning of this joke...

3. “Chiagechia” by Keio Sawai

"Chihagechia" comics

This is another work by Keio Sawai, the author of "The Fist of Nose Hair". It is worth noting that it set the fastest record in the history of "Weekly Shonen Jump". It was unfortunately cancelled in just eight weeks... Because of the short time, it disappeared without even a single volume being released. The story is about bad boys, and it is also a low-school age comic mainly for good children.

4. From the Sky (3 volumes), by Hiroyuki Takei

Cover of the book "From Outer Space"

This is a Buddhist manga created by Hiroyuki Takei, the author of Shaman King. It has a drama CD, but it was also serialized for three volumes before quietly leaving the stage. The Anna of Osorezan that appears in this work is the first generation, and the Anna of Shaman King is the second generation.

The style and setting are slightly similar to Shaman King

A hasty ending can make room for more potential works, but it is a pity for readers who like these works that were cut short. Moreover, the number of these short-lived comics published is extremely small, and it is not easy to find and read them even if you want to...
