Investigators said that Park Jong-hyeon's wife died at home last August. Park Jong-Hyun was previously the editor of the popular manga "Attack on Titan" and is currently the deputy editor-in-chief of the youth manga magazine "Morning". According to a person related to Kodansha, Park Jong-Hyun decisively used the unknown newcomer Isayama Saku as the mainstay at the beginning of the serialization of "Attack on Titan" and made the work popular. His method was amazing, so he was respected as a "genius" within the company.

In the early morning of 2016, the suspect Park Jong-hyeon called the police and said that his wife had stopped breathing after returning home. She fell near the entrance on the first floor and died after being sent to the hospital. When the police questioned the suspect Park Jong-hyeon, Park Jong-hyeon said that his wife committed suicide. Later, he said that he came home drunk and controlled his wife because he saw her holding a knife. After he came to his senses, his wife was already dead. However, according to the forensic autopsy results of the Metropolitan Police Department of Japan, there were signs of strangulation on his wife's neck. The police believed that there was a high possibility that the husband strangled his wife's neck and pushed her down the stairs, causing her death.
