CATDOLL: Japanese "drama pioneer" cartoonist Tatsumi Yoshihiro passed away

According to Japanese media reports, cartoonist Tatsumi Yoshihiro died of malignant lymphoma at 18:49 on March 7, 2015 at the age of 79. The funeral will be held at a later date, and only family members will be invited to attend.

Tatsumi Yoshihiro was born in 1935 and became active in the postwar "loan era". He played a key role in the birth of gagiga in the late 1950s and was later called the "father of gagiga".

Yoshihiro Tatsumi began to read the works of Osamu Tezuka in junior high school, and took this opportunity to embark on the path of a cartoonist. His debut work was the long work "A Pleasant Drifting" in 1951. Yoshihiro Tatsumi has a unique understanding of comics. He introduced film-like expression techniques into comics, making his works full of realism and named it "gekiga". His long autobiographical work "Gekiga Drifting" created in 2008 also won the 13th Tezuka Osamu Cultural Award. It was later adapted into an animation and screened at the Cannes Film Festival.
