Recently, the production team of the live-action movie version of "Mobile Police Patlabor" "THE NEXT GENERATION Patlabor" visited the Japan Air Self-Defense Force with a 1:1 scale model of Englund. The live-action version of "Mobile Police Patlabor" has been showing seven short film series "THE NEXT GENERATION PATLABOR" since April 2014, and the highlight is the feature-length theatrical version "THE NEXT GENERATION PATLABOR: The Battle of the Capital" which will be released on May 1, 2015. During the filming of the film, the Japanese Self-Defense Forces (Ministry of Defense, Air Self-Defense Force, Ground Self-Defense Force) fully assisted. The flight shots of fighter jets such as F-2 and F-15 that appeared in the film, as well as the cockpit view during the flight, were all shot at the Tsukiji base. To express their gratitude, the production team took Englund to visit the Air Self-Defense Force's Tsukijiro Base (Fukuoka Prefecture) and held a preview for the Self-Defense Force members at the base. Englund also took a rare photo with the F-2 and F-15 fighter jets during this visit. In the live-action version of the comic book "Mobile Police Patlabor", the production team perfectly recreated an 8-meter-high Type 98 Englund and the Second Section Building. The total production cost was as high as 2.2 billion yen, which attracted widespread attention. Starting from the first chapter (episode 0 to episode 1) released on April 5, 2014, to the seventh chapter (episode 12 "The Great Legacy") on January 10, 2015, they were successively put on the screen. |
