CATDOLL: "Fast and Furious 7" Director James Wan is expected to direct "Robotech"

After the release of "Fast & Furious 7" in mainland China, it took only 15 days to become the first film in mainland China's film history to have a box office of over 2 billion yuan. While we are paying attention to how high the box office of this film can reach, our attention has also begun to focus on the director of "Fast & Furious 7" - Chinese director James Wan. This director, who has become a treasure trove in the eyes of major film production companies, is also highly anticipated to direct a new work. And the Japanese animation adaptation film "Robot Robotech" is expected to be his new work.

According to Deadline, Sony Pictures has contacted James Wan and the two sides are currently in the early stages of negotiations. If the deal is finalized, Robotech will become the fourth film series he created after Saw, Insidious and The Conjuring. James Wan's next film will be the sequel to The Conjuring, which will be released on June 10, 2016.

The first three episodes of the animated series Robotech, Macross, Macross, and MechGenesis, were produced by Japanese animation companies. In 1985, the American company Harmony Gold purchased the distribution rights of the first three episodes and re-edited them, with the English title "Robotech". After that, the United States began to produce the sequel and peripheral games of Robotech on its own, and the series gradually became popular around the world. In the early 1990s, mainland China introduced Robotech from Harmony Gold, and Shanghai TV translated and dubbed it, with the translated title set as Robotech. This animated series also became a precious memory for Chinese young audiences at that time.

The production team for the live-action version of "Robotech" is very strong. Sony Pictures has invited the behind-the-scenes team of "300" to join the special effects production. Michael Gordon will serve as the screenwriter, and Mark Canton and Gianni Nunnally will serve as producers.

However, James Wan is the director of the upcoming Aquaman (DC Comics superhero, commonly known as Aquaman) produced by Warner Bros., and there are also reports that Universal Pictures also wants him to continue directing the eighth installment of the Fast and Furious series, and The Conjuring 2 will also begin filming this fall. With so many job offers, it is still unknown which work he will choose to direct.
