CATDOLL: The money raised for the animation "Dies irae" is still not enough, and it will cost at least 300 million to produce

Anime Star reported before that the Chuunibyou masterpiece "Dies irae" raised money for animation production, and although it had reached the expected 30 million yen mark early, the relevant person in charge recently said in an interview: In fact, it would take at least 300 million yen to produce a quarter of this work.

Q: In terms of results, this crowdfunding was a huge success.

A: But the most frightening thing is the initial investment. Especially in the production of animation, 30 or 40 million yen is simply not enough to make it. For this reason, we have to invest more than 200 million yen in "Dies irae".

Q: Do you really need such a large budget?

A: Yes... 200 million... Um, when we were negotiating, we thought it would be 300 million yen, so we have to invest at least more than 300 million (laughs).

Q: Does it cost that much to animate a quarter?

A: Usually, it costs 10 million yen just for the video to produce a 30-minute work. And this is just for the animation company. If you count the director's fee and the sound cost, the total investment is about 12 to 13 million yen. Some high-priced companies even spend 18 million yen.

Q: Each episode costs 20 million yen? So, 13 episodes of animation would cost 200 million yen.

A: The production cost alone was 200 million yen. If you factor in the TV broadcasting fees, it would be about 250 million yen.

"Dies irae" tells a story: After World War II, the mysterious German Knights of the Holy Lance disappeared from people's sight. However, in 2006, the protagonist Fujii Ren, who was studying at the academy in Suwahara City, was forced to start his hospital life because of a breakup with his good friend Yusa Jiro. Afterwards, he dreamed of the nightmare of the guillotine every night, the murderer hunting for human heads, and the black-clad "knights" chasing him. The disorder beyond common sense covered the city and gradually eroded... and the battle with the Knights of the Holy Lance was the continuation of the war of killing and curse. So what will be waiting for Ren in the end?
