CATDOLL: The producer of "The Monkey King: Hero is Back": The ending was almost ruined, so the real-life audition was conducted to find inspiration

"The Monkey King: Hero is Back" is the most popular Chinese animated film in recent years, and has been recommended by many viewers on many social media platforms. However, in 2012, when "The Monkey King: Hero is Back" had already produced a large part, the production team encountered difficulties. Its executive producer Jin Dayong said in Xiamen on August 22 that this animated film, which is now popular in China and has a domestic box office of 800 million yuan, was once a "bad ending" work.

Jin Dayong, executive producer of "The Return of the Great Sage": During the production process, especially at the beginning, everyone couldn't see or feel hopeless. Because we are also responsible to the investors, we have to finish it as quickly as possible. But in fact, things like animation and animated films should not be calculated by time.

On that day, Jin Dayong, who was attending the Xiamen International Animation Festival, wore a T-shirt with a bust of Sun Wukong, attracting the attention of many "Monkey King fans". Jin Dayong said that after brainstorming with the director, in order to solve the confidence dilemma, they found some real actors to try out some scenes in the cartoon and performed them for the production staff for reference.

Jin Dayong, executive producer of "The Return of the Great Sage": When we were doing this, we were trying to complete it in a hurry, so our quality was absolutely unacceptable. Later, we made timely adjustments, found some actors, some animation directors and so on, and readjusted the production plan, which led to the current work.

Jin Dayong is also proud of the pure Chinese style in "The Return of the Great Sage". He believes that choosing "Journey to the West" is a risk, and that to produce a good animation work, time cannot be a limit.

Jin Dayong, executive producer of The Return of the Great Sage: One thing that we can make everyone accept is our story. When we designed Wukong, we did not make him a god but a human. We wrote the script for about six years and the production took more than four years.

Jin Dayong told reporters that during the production process, they asked animators to create characters in accordance with Chinese habits rather than using routines. They successfully made Sun Wukong bear the Chinese label, unlike Kung Fu Panda, which depicts pandas but American pandas.

Jin Dayong, executive producer of "The Return of the Great Sage": The performance of the character needs to conform to some of our Chinese understanding, or some of our habits, so when people watch it, they may not know what's good about the character, but it's very comfortable to watch.
