CATDOLL: American media says people who use anime characters as avatars discriminate against women

Nowadays, online social networking is very popular. Almost everyone, from children to the elderly, has a social account on the Internet. Generally, these social accounts have an avatar setting. Many people use anime characters as their avatars. Some people may not like anime, but just use them because they look cute. However, an American magazine called "New York" recently published an article stating that people who use anime characters as avatars are not only lacking in social skills, but also likely to discriminate against women.

The author of this article is Marcus Reid. He believes that most people who use anime avatars support conservative political movements and some movements that discriminate against women. Compared with people with other avatars, such people tend to spend more time on the Internet and lack sociality. In addition, the article also points out that "accounts that use anime as avatars often do some stupid things. Although there are some very smart people among otakus, if you don't want to feel disgusted, you should still decisively unfollow them."

When the news was exposed by the Japanese media, some Japanese netizens ridiculed themselves: "Let's not talk about whether it discriminates against women or not, at least I agree that there is a lack of social interaction...", "The United States has done a thorough study of otakus". But some people also complained, "How can otakus be interested in political movements? We just like to follow anime", "Americans must have problems with their brain circuits", so what do you think? Many women also use anime characters as their avatars. Are they discriminating against themselves? I feel that the author's statement is really one-sided.
