With the development of domestic original comics and domestic original animations, the creation of domestic original light novels has also ushered in a new era. Various original light novel platforms of varying quality have emerged one after another. The previously famous light novel reading APP Light Novel Library announced its revival and started its own original light novel journey. However, Light Novel Library has not completely given up on Japanese light novels. Light Novel Library has now begun to introduce the copyright of Japanese light novels. For this reason, we interviewed Yin Yi, the editor-in-chief of Light Novel Library, to see the connection and difference between domestic light novels and Japanese light novels in the eyes of Light Novel Library

——Can you briefly introduce the Japanese light novel copyright works that Light Novel Library has introduced this time?

Silver Wing: One Japanese light novel that can be revealed is "My Sister is a Zombie", which has four volumes. The story tells of a sister who has a severe brother complex and dies in an accident. The brother injects a mysterious drug into the sister, and the sister revives as a zombie. It is essentially a comedy story of zombie brother complex and human sister complex. In addition to this Japanese light novel, Light Novel Library is currently preparing to introduce many popular Japanese light novels, which will be kept secret for the time being.

——Why did you choose "My Sister is a Zombie" as the first work you introduced after your resurrection?

Silver Wings: Light novels about brothers and sisters have always been a popular theme among readers in China and Japan. The introduction of this Japanese light novel is also based on the preferences of domestic readers. This is only the first Japanese light novel we have introduced, and the introduction of this work also has some "experimental" meaning.

——What does the experiment refer to?

Silver Wing: Currently, among the domestic platforms that produce original light novels, some are doing piracy while producing some original light novel content in defiance of the world, while others are only producing original light novels due to funding and resource issues. In fact, both models have certain problems.

The first model makes the entire platform seem to have no respect for the author's creation, and also gives many readers the first impression that the original light novels on this platform are pirated. The second model severs the connection between Japanese light novels and Chinese light novels, giving the impression of being a closed-door operation.

Light Novel Library hopes to improve the quality of original light novels by using high-quality editing and illustrations, and to guide authors by continuously introducing genuine Japanese light novels, so that readers can have more choices. Light Novel Library is essentially an open platform for light novel creation and sharing. Original light novels and genuine Japanese light novels can compete on the same platform in Light Novel Library. This mechanism of Chinese and Japanese works competing on the same platform is more conducive to the development of original light novels.

——How does Light Novel Library view the relationship between Japanese light novels and original light novels?

Silver Wing: The character creation model, illustration level and subsequent business model of Japanese light novels are all objects that domestic original light novels should learn from, but we do not want original light novels to imitate the writing style and story model of Japanese light novels. Our goal is to learn from the business model of Japanese light novels and create down-to-earth original light novels.

Therefore, we need to promote more original light novels and introduce more Japanese authentic light novels on the platform to form a healthy learning competition relationship, because readers will read their favorite works. If the reading number of original light novels is always lower than that of imported authentic Japanese light novels, editors and authors should think about the reasons, find out the problems and make improvements. Only by maintaining this creation mode can we become a truly excellent original light novel platform.

At present, the imported genuine Japanese light novels are used as a catalyst for the creation of original light novels. This approach of focusing on both Japanese light novels and original works will definitely place high demands on the platform. However, for the domestic original light novels that are now becoming increasingly popular, this approach of allowing Japanese light novels and domestic light novels to compete on the same platform is also a new attempt. I hope that in the future, Light Novel Library will be able to produce one or several works that lead the domestic original light novel industry.
