Now Wang Jianhua, the project leader of the live-action version of "The Return of the Great Sage", has come out to say: "Our film was filed earlier than theirs."

However, the official explanation given by the live-action version of the title is hard to accept. Wang Jianhua explained: "It may be that the staff went to the design company to design a piece of art font, but they didn't expect it to be designed like this. Maybe they didn't pay attention." Regarding the project filing, Wang Jianhua said that their live-action version of "The Return of the Great Sage" was approved as early as 2014, not only earlier than Hengdian Film and Television's live-action version of "The Return of the Great Sage", but also earlier than the release time of the animated version. Moreover, the plot of the live-action version describes the story of the Great Sage killing the White Bone Demon on the way to the West and being expelled by Tang Monk, and the story of his return, so it is not a copycat at all.

Wang Jianhua also said, "In September 2015, we found a lawyer to hold a seminar. At that time, they used our name "The Return of the Great Sage", and we said we supported domestic films and did not sue them." Wang Jianhua also said that after filing the application in 2014, they have been repeatedly revising the script and preparing for the film, so the project has not been launched until now.
