On January 14, at a press conference held in Tokyo, the Japan Academy Awards, known as the "Japanese Oscars", announced the list of nominees for the 38th awards. The 18th theatrical version of "Detective Conan", "Sniper from Another Dimension", was nominated for "Best Animation". Also nominated were Ghibli's "When Marnie Was There", the award-winning "Giovanni's Island", "Osamu Tezuka's Buddha 2: Endless Journey", and "Doraemon: Stand By Me" which will be released in mainland China soon.
The award ceremony for the winning works will be held at the Grand Prince Hotel in Shinagawa Ward, Tokyo on February 27, 2015, and Joe Hisaishi will appear at the venue as a guest of honor. The previous two winning animations were Mamoru Hosoda's "Wolf Children: Ame to Yuki" and Hayao Miyazaki's "The Wind Rises".
