CATDOLL: "Doraemon" CG movie won the Japanese Oscar for Best Animation and the box office exceeded 10 billion

The Japan Academy Awards (日本アカデミー赏), also known as the Japanese Film Oscars, were founded in 1978 and hosted by the Japan Academy Awards Association. It is the only award among Japan's major film awards that is presented through a live television awards ceremony. At the 38th Japan Academy Awards ceremony, the official announced the outstanding films of 2014, among which "Doraemon: Stand by Me" won the 2014 Best Animation Award. It is also the first CG animation in history to win the Japanese Oscar for Best Animation. Does this mean that Japanese animation is about to enter the era of CG animation?

However, the emergence of this idea should also be related to the recent entry of American blockbuster animation into the Japanese domestic market. After all, "Big Hero 6" and "Frozen" have won high reputation and box office revenue in Japan. Their 3D production can obviously save some tedious details for the animation, but the high-end rendering of 3D animation is not inferior to the investment in 2D animation. This time, "Doraemon: Stand by Me" is used as a test of CG animation, and combined with the 80th anniversary commemoration, the emotional work created is not inferior to the American Disney blockbusters. As of recently, the box office revenue of this theatrical version has exceeded 10 billion yen worldwide, making it the highest-grossing film in Japan in 2014, so don't compare it with Naruto, which is still hovering around 2 billion box office.

The full list of winners of the Japan Academy Awards is as follows:

The following is the official acceptance speech:

Although "Doraemon: Nobita's New Mermaid Battle" won the Excellence Award in 2011, it did not reach my goal and did not reach the best. It was at this time that we thought that the setting of this theater version had the potential to become the first complete CG animation. It has a great impact on the animation industry, the concepts of animators and this market. I think it can win the award for Best Animation.

This is a new era of CG animation. The world of theatrical animation can only choose CG animation because I see more CG animations winning film awards.

However, in the Japanese Oscars, the Best Animation Award for the past eight years has been won by hand-drawn animations. But I think CG animations are likely to have more audiences in Japan, so I called on filmmakers to change their minds, and the basis for this is "Stand by Me Doraemon", which won the Best Animation Award.
