CATDOLL: "Crayon Shin-chan" was banned in the United States for showing buttocks, rejecting vulgarity

Many Japanese cartoons and movies have been introduced and broadcast in the United States, but Japanese TV dramas are rarely picked up by American TV stations. Even "Naoki Hanzawa", "Tokyo Love Story" and "White Tower" that have created ratings myths have been neglected.

Are Japanese TV dramas not good to watch? According to a Global Times reporter, many excellent Japanese dramas are often rooted in the local culture, attach importance to Japanese culture and Japanese aesthetics, and even the narrative style is Japanese. When American TV stations select films, they first consider the acceptance of American audiences. Only content that meets the moral standards and aesthetic vision of Americans is easy to get a response. This is the same reason why Japanese sushi became larger after entering the United States, and even "cheese sushi" and "fried chicken sushi" were derived.

Because of this, Japanese dramas exported to the United States often have to undergo major changes based on the requirements of the other party. Either the length is shortened, or content that is very familiar to the Japanese but not understood by Americans is deleted. Or, the character dialogues are made into American accents and words. In short, the whole face and costumes have to be changed.

Japanese cartoons are facing the same situation. For example, the scene in Doraemon where a naughty boy fights with his classmates was deleted because it was considered violent. The scene where Jing is bullied by a boy is considered to be a deliberate attempt to set a weak female image, which is not conducive to children's correct gender perspective. Crayon Shin-chan was banned in the United States because it "shows buttocks all the time."

Interestingly, many Japanese TV stations are worried that Americanized Japanese dramas will cause public dissatisfaction and even protests once they are returned to Japan. Some TV drama producers have even reluctantly given up plans to export to the United States.
