CATDOLL: Disney held a press conference at the Cannes Film Festival and will release 5 animated films in the next two years

At this year's Cannes Film Festival, Disney held a special press conference, where John Lasseter led animation artists from Disney Animation and Pixar to introduce five animated films that they will release in the next two years, and showed stills and highlights.

The five animated films are: Pixar's The Good Dinosaur, Finding Dory, and Toys Story 4; Disney's Zootopia and Moana. Let's take a look at these animated films.

The Good Dinosaur

Pixar, release date: November 25, 2015

The Good Dinosaur tells the story of a little brontosaurus Arlo who encounters a tragedy in a parallel world where dinosaurs have not become extinct. His father dies, and he falls into a river, hits a rock and passes out. When he wakes up again, he is lost far away from home. Arlo begins his journey back to his hometown, the Clawed-Tooth Mountains, and on the way he meets a companion, a little human boy named Spot.

At the press conference, Lasseter showed some pictures of dinosaurs in "The Good Dinosaur" and played a trailer. In the trailer, Arrow and Dot were chasing fireflies in the forest. The realism of the pictures was unprecedented in Pixar movies!

Lasseter introduced that "The Good Dinosaur" tells the story of a boy and his pet, but the roles are reversed. The dinosaur Arrow is the "boy" in this story, and the boy Diandian is the "pet" he raises in this story.

Zootopia

Disney Animation, Release Date: March 4, 2016

John Lasseter described the film as "classic Disney", inspired by the famous fairy tale The Wind in the Willows, in which talking animals behave like humans.

In the world of the film, humans have never existed, and animals of different races, such as vegetarians and carnivores, live in peace in the same city (at least on the surface). The protagonist of the story is a chattering fox Nick Wilde (voiced by Jason Bateman). He was framed for a crime and began to flee. The always self-righteous female rabbit sheriff Judy Hopps (voiced by Ginnifer Goodwin) was ordered to hunt him down. However, when they found that they were both the targets of a conspiracy, these two natural enemies joined hands and became best friends.

In the past, Disney's animal cartoons were either stories about animals in nature or stories about them in the human world, but never stories about animals in a modern world designed and built by animals! In order to design this civilized world for animals, the filmmakers also visited many anthropology experts and zoo guides.

Finding Dory

Unknowingly, "Finding Nemo" has been released for 12 years, but in "Finding Nemo 2", Dory and his friends have only been back to the Great Barrier Reef for six months. In order to find Dory's parents and help them reunite, the clownfish Nemo, Marlin and Dory set out again, from the Great Barrier Reef of Australia to the coast of California, where she met many new friends, including octopuses, sea lions, beluga whales, etc. Of course, there are also her parents Charlie and Jenny, voiced by Eugene Levy and Diane Keaton.

A large part of the story of "Ocean's 2" takes place at the California Marine Biology Institute, where Dory was born and raised. In the film, Dory and Marlin will still be voiced by Ellen DeGeneres and Albert Brooks, and Ty Burrell will join in as the voice of a white whale named Bailey.

Moana

"Moana" is Disney's first Polynesian princess. Polynesians are a people living on small islands in the South Pacific, with their own unique local culture, religion and art. The inspiration for this film started from this.

In the trailer at the press conference, the birth of Moana is shown at the beginning, accompanied by a song, which easily reminds people of the beginning of The Lion King. The film tells the story of a Polynesian tribe that loved sailing living on a small island in the South Pacific 2,000 years ago. The chief of the tribe had an only daughter named Moana Waialiki, who wanted to explore the nearby islands very much, but her father did not allow it. So after her grandmother died, Moana secretly rowed out of the island to find the legendary island. She had two companions, one was a rooster Hei and the other was a pig Pua.

Moana and his crew are stranded on an island when a totem comes to life with a magic snapper hook. This talking and singing totem Maui is voiced by Dwayne Johnson. Moana then heads out to the open ocean with him, overcoming all kinds of dangers to complete the journey that their ancestors left unfinished a thousand years ago.

"Moana" is co-directed by John Musker and Ron Clement, the directors of "The Little Mermaid", "Aladdin" and "The Princess and the Frog". The film will contain many elements of folk tales from the South Pacific islands. For this purpose, the film's production staff went to the South Pacific to investigate and collect folk songs, and received guidance and blessings from many local fishermen, tribal leaders and anthropologists.

Toy Story 4

"Toy Story 4" is directed by John Lasseter himself. No trailer was shown at the press conference, mainly because the film is still in the early stages of preparation.
