On July 21 this year, the Binjiang District People's Court of Hangzhou City made a first-instance judgment on the case of Hangzhou Big Head Son Cultural Development Co., Ltd. suing CCTV Animation Co., Ltd. for copyright infringement. Subsequently, some media reported on this matter out of context, only mentioning that the judgment found that CCTV Animation had violated the law and ordered CCTV Animation to compensate a Hangzhou company for economic losses of more than 1.26 million yuan. In response to this matter, CCTV Animation recently made a statement.

The statement shows: According to the judgment, the court rejected the lawsuit filed by Hangzhou Big Head Son Culture Development Co., Ltd. requiring CCTV Animation to immediately stop the reproduction, sale, rental, broadcast, network transmission and other acts of the "New Big Head Son and Little Head Dad" cartoon, and no longer exhibit, promote, sell, and license the image adapted from the plaintiff's "Big Head Son" art work and its derivative peripheral products. The original author Liu Zedai only enjoys the copyright of the "Big Head Son" and other positive image sketch art works he created at the end of 1994. It can be seen that CCTV Animation has the right to continue to exercise the copyright of the "New Big Head Son and Little Head Dad" cartoon and its derivative products.

The statement also explained the creation and authorization of the 1995 version and the 2013 version of the Big Head Son cartoon: The complete images of the three characters "Big Head Son", "Small Head Dad" and "Apron Mom" ​​used in the 1995 version of the "Big Head Son and Small Head Dad" cartoon were created by the art creation team organized by CCTV with the support of CCTV, on behalf of CCTV's will, and ultimately CCTV was responsible for the work, so CCTV should be regarded as the author of the derivative work and enjoy the copyright.
