CATDOLL: Japanese anime magazine "Weekly Shonen Sunday" will be completely redesigned this fall

Speaking of the old Japanese manga magazine "Weekly Shonen Sunday", works such as "Inuyasha", "The World God Only Knows", "Detective Conan" and so on are all serialized on it. However, the sales of the magazine have been declining in recent years. For this reason, the official recently announced that it will be brewing major reforms. The announcement jointly issued by the magazine's editor-in-chief Ichihara Takenoko and other relevant personnel mainly proposed that new talents will be trained and previous serialized works will be eliminated. It seems that the editorial department of "Weekly Shonen Sunday" has made a big decision this time.

To all readers

Thank you for your continued support for Shonen Sunday. After seven years, I have returned to my hometown, Weekly Shonen Sunday, to greet you all and report on the future direction of Shonen Sunday.

"Weekly Shonen Sunday" will make it its absolute mission to train pure new writers from now on. If any editor violates this principle, we will ruthlessly expel him from the Shonen Sunday editorial department. The so-called "new writers" are those who believe in their own talents in their only life and challenge the "ocean" of comics with bare hands. The comic editors who accompany them also need to have a strong sense of responsibility and awareness. If an editor I think is not competent for such a job, then we will not need him in the "Sunday Group" in the future. And I firmly believe that all the members of the new Shonen Sunday editorial department who gathered around me after the major reorganization in July this year are people with this awareness.

On the other hand, I think the ideal Shonen Sunday is not just supported by new writers. The strength of the backbone and top writers who have given strong support to Shonen Sunday in its history is also indispensable. Only by mastering the perfect balance between tradition and innovation can the "diversity" of the magazine show its charm. This is also what I believe.

After this fall, both Shonen Sunday and Sunday's super supplements will begin major reforms. Many serialized works will be removed from the magazine pages, and replaced by talented new and young writers. We will continue to increase the speed of reform in half a year. Thank you, readers, for being a witness to Shonen Sunday's reconstruction.

As the core of this reform, I will personally be responsible for all decisions related to Shonen Sunday's "manga", from the preliminary selection of the rookie award and the debut short stories of new writers to the new serialization plans of top writers. My arbitrariness, prejudice and aesthetic consciousness are everything. Of course, this also means that the fate of Shonen Sunday will be my sole responsibility from now on, and I have made up my mind for this.

I have been a pure Shonen Sunday kid since I was a teenager. I have never been a JUMP kid or a Magazine kid. In elementary school, middle school, and high school, Weekly Shonen Sunday has always been what supported me. Now, I must bet everything in my life as a manga editor to repay Shonen Sunday. At the same time, I also hope to repay the many great cartoonists who have supported the history of Shonen Sunday and the readers who have loved Shonen Sunday in all ages. Thank you all, please look forward to how I, as a Shonen Sunday kid, will carry out my own gratitude in the future. I will be extremely honored for this.

Such a strong official announcement has caused an uproar among Japanese anime fans: "It seems that many series will be cut short!" "There is a strong smell of a coup d'état..." "Is "Detective Conan" finally going to end?" We will look forward to what results this reform will bring.
