CATDOLL: The movie version of "In This Corner of the World" successfully completed the 20 million yen fundraising

Previously, we reported that the producers of the theatrical version of In This Corner of the World had started to raise funds on the crowdfunding website Makuake. Four years ago, In This Corner of the World was decided to be adapted into a theatrical animation. On March 9, the public fundraising plan was launched to raise 20 million yen as film funds within 80 days. Today, the official announcement was made that the theatrical version of In This Corner of the World has successfully raised 20 million yen, successfully reaching the predetermined goal! And now it has only been 9 days since the fundraising started.

This is an animated film based on the representative work of cartoonist Fumiyo Kono, In This Corner of the World. After completing the preparation of the script and original drawings, the project started to raise funds on makuake on the 9th of this month, with a goal of 20 million yen. Within the first 36 hours, the project raised more than 10 million yen, and reached 89% within a week. So far, this work has received more than 20 million yen in funds, with 1,753 investors.

The manga of this work won the Excellence Award in the Manga Department of the Agency for Cultural Affairs Media Arts Festival in 2009. The theatrical version will be directed and written by Sunao Katabuchi, and MAPPA will be responsible for the animation production.

The story is set in Hiroshima during World War II. Suzu, who is good at painting, married into the Hojo family in Kure City in 1944 when she was 18 years old. As a housewife, Suzu had to take care of her family every day despite the lack of supplies. As the war continued, Kure City became a Japanese naval base and was constantly attacked by air raids. The scenery she saw every day was full of warships and towns in flames. Even so, Suzu still tried hard to survive. Finally, the summer of 1945 arrived...
