CATDOLL: Otaku can't save the industry. Japan's welfare games have shrunk rapidly in the past two years.

As one of the core contents of Galgame, erotic elements are often referred to as erotic games. As a giant in the Japanese ACG industry and an indispensable part of the animation business industry, its status was once no less than animation and comics, and it often used its own advantages to adapt into TV animations. The more famous ones include "Fate/stay night" and "clannad", which have a solid fan base both in Japan and abroad. Unfortunately, the erotic game industry has been facing drastic challenges in the past two years. Since 2010, the number of erotic game shipments has begun to decrease significantly every year. Until 2014, there were only 8 works with a shipment of more than 30,000 copies, setting a new low.

The following are the sales of Japanese erotic games in the past two years

In 2010, more than 100,0002 -- more than 75,0001 -- more than 50,0003 -- more than 30,0009 -- more than 20,00017 -- more than 15,00013 -- more than 10,00054
In 2011, more than 100,0002 -- more than 75,0002 -- more than 50,0001 -- more than 30,0009 -- more than 20,00017 -- more than 15,00012 -- more than 10,00047
In 2012, more than 100,000 0 -- more than 75,000 0 -- more than 50,000 3 -- more than 30,000 4 -- more than 20,000 5 -- more than 15,000 19 -- more than 10,000 47
In 2013, more than 100,000 0 -- more than 75,000 0 -- more than 50,000 0 -- more than 30,000 10 -- more than 20,000 7 -- more than 15,000 14 -- more than 10,000 51
In 2014, more than 100,000 0 -- more than 75,000 0 -- more than 50,000 0 -- more than 30,000 8 -- more than 20,000 6 -- more than 15,000 9 -- more than 10,000 28

From the table above, we can see that in 2010, when the erotic game industry was developed, two works could still maintain sales of 100,000. However, starting from 2012, erotic games with sales of 100,000 no longer exist, and after 2014, erotic games with sales of 50,000 no longer exist. On the one hand, the industry environment is indeed not as good as before. Erotic games focus on eroticism and less on the plot, and it is difficult to produce the masterpieces of the year. On the other hand, people who have struggled in this industry for several years quickly paved the way for themselves to whitewash themselves after seeing the reality. They switched to light novel illustrators, writers or cartoonists, such as Maruto Fumiaki, Saeki Shun, Takahiro, etc. Even many doujinshi artists have switched jobs. This has caused a shortage of talents in the game industry, thus accelerating the decline of the industry. Although game companies are still trying to save the situation through efforts, can they actually produce results? We can only wait and see.
